Amy J. Peters, CMSW

Amy Peters began serving the School as a full-time faculty member in fall 2009, after serving the prior year as a part-time faculty member. From 2009-2023, Amy held a variety of administrative roles including: School Assistant Director (2017-2023), Coordinator for MSW Distance Education (2020-2023), Early Childhood Mental Health Certificate Coordinator (2018-2020), Admissions Director (2013-2017), Assistant Director of Praciticum Education (2009-13), and Liaison to the NC Child Welfare Collaborative (2009-2010). As the School’s Assistant Director, Amy was responsible for recruitment, enrollment management, and day-to-day operations related to Academic Affairs. Amy currently serves as a Senior Lecturer teaching four courses each semester. Amy Peters continually seeks to support a diverse student body including transfer students, first-generation college students, and adult learners who may be balancing work, school, and family responsibilies. Amy’ ssocial work direct practice and administrative experience focused on advocacy, education, crisis intervention, and program development, serving victims of intimate partner violence, child abuse, sexual assault, and natural disasters. Amy has completed presentations on national, state and local levels, in addition to having been an instructor at two community colleges. Amy’s previous board experience includes having served on the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board (2014-2016), the Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools Board (2010-2013), and an Advisory Board Member for the BRIDGES Leadership Program in North Carolina (2021-2023). Amy currently serves as an Advisory Board Member for the NC State Employees Credit Union – Harrisburg Branch and as Community-At Large Member for the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services’ Adoption Committee. For fun, Amy enjoys antique marketplaces, decorating, exploring small towns in the South, nature walks, boating, as well as making memories with family.
